Mahdi A. Daud is an experienced Economist, Academic lecturer, and Researcher with over 10 years of professional experience in central banking. He Joined the Central Bank of Somalia as an economist in the Economic Research and Statistics Department (later changed to Research and Statistics Department) in Jan 2014. Mr. Mahdi started his banking career working on Monetary and Financial data, Balance of Payment, and the production of the economic outlook for the country. In 2016 Mahdi was appointed as a Director of the Research and Statistics Department, where he has made substantial contributions in the dissemination of key macroeconomic statistics and production of economic report.

Mr. Daud was promoted to executive director on July 10, 2023, responsible for Monetary, Financial and Regulatory Policy area. He has represented the CBS in numerous platforms including Somalia’s Debt Relief Program, the Economic Development Pillar technical working group of the Federal Government of Somalia, the Association of African Central Banks (AACB), and international financial institutions (IFIs).

Prior to his move to the CBS, Mahdi served as academic lecturer and taught microeconomics, macroeconomics, managerial economics, public finance, and international economics at Mogadishu University.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Mogadishu University, and Master of Arts in Economic Policy and Planning from Makerere University, Uganda.
